Onsen Ryokan Morning — Mt. Fuji View Rotenburo

A 26-year-old Japanese woman sits at the stone edge of a private rotenburo (open-air hot spring) at a luxury Hakone ryokan at 6:14 AM on a clear February morning. She wears a pale blue cotton yukata, loosely tied, with the right sleeve pushed back to mid-forearm where she rests her arm on the warm kuroboku (black basalt) rock edge. Her black hair is loosely pinned with a single hinoki wooden hairstick; several damp wisps have escaped and curl at the nape of her neck from the steam.
