A 20-year-old Japanese shrine maiden (miko) stands alone at the foot of the stone steps leading to a small mountain forest shrine in late October at 5:18 PM. She wears a crisp white haori jacket over a deep red hakama — the hakama's pleated folds fanning slightly where the hem meets the mossy stone beneath her. Her black hair falls straight past her waist, secured only by a single white cloth ribbon knotted loosely at the nape. She holds a gohei wand (white zigzag paper shide on a plain wooden handle) in both hands extended slightly forward — a posture of quiet presentation, not ceremony. Her expression is neutral and inward: eyes focused on a point slightly below the frame's horizon, lips barely parted. She does not perform for the camera.
